Craftsman Auctions is the only major American auction series devoted solely to the Arts & Crafts Period. Craftsman Auctions, which holds two major Arts & Crafts sales annually, in March and September, is a partnership between David Rago, art pottery expert and Antiques Roadshow appraiser; Jerry Cohen, owner of the Mission Oak Shop and Arts & Crafts furniture expert for over 25 years; and Suzanne Perrault, pottery tile expert and Antiques Roadshow appraiser.
The American Arts & Crafts period reached its peak between the years 1900 and 1916. The leading designers, artisan studios, and manufacturers are all well represented in each of our auctions. We feature Gustav Stickley furniture (Craftsman Workshops), L&JG Stickley furniture, Stickley Brothers, Charles Stickley furniture, Charles Limbert Co., Charles Rohlfs, and the Roycroft Shops. In pottery, we feature production from the studios of Rookwood Pottery, George Ohr, Grueby Faience, Newcomb College, Marblehead, Saturday Evening Girls, Tiffany Studios, Adelaide Robineau, John Bennett, and many others. Copperwork such as Dirk Van Erp lamp lamps, Gustav Stickley hammered copper accessories and Albert Berry, Elbert Hubbard’s Roycrofters, Harry Dixon, Lillian Palmer, Benedict Studios, Stickley Brothers, Fred Brosi, Old Mission Kopper Kraft, and others. Light fixtures come from Tiffany Studios, Handel, Dirk Van Erp, Heintz Art Metal Shops, Roycroft, Gustav Stickley and others. In addition, we sell other decorative objects from the period that include textiles, paintings, photographs by Edward Curtis, books, and woodblock prints by William Rice, Gustave Baumann, Frances Gearhart and Edna Boies Hopkins.
Craftsman Auctions is always looking for quality Arts & Crafts objects (important vases, mission style furniture, lamps and woodblock prints) and is pleased to provide a free appraisal if you submit digital photographs to jerrycohen@mac.com or mail them to Jerry Cohen, 109 Main Street, Putnam, CT 06260. Our main Stickley auction gallery is located at the Rago Arts & Auction Center, 333 North Main Street, Lambertville, NJ, 08530. We have an antiques collection point at Jerry Cohen’s Antiques Marketplace at 109 Main Street, Putnam, CT 06260 for New England clients who would like to drop off auction consignments locally. Jerry Cohen is always in the market to purchase antique Arts & Crafts period objects for his Putnam showroom, so in addition to making auction appraisals, he will work with you to purchase your items directly
